Old practices, new ideas: Nawin’s journey to modern cattle rearing

Nawin Shrestha once dreamed of a better future far from his home, Aiselukharka. Like many young Nepalese, he spent years working abroad, believing that opportunities lay beyond the country’s borders. But the farther he went, the more he realized the true potential waiting in his own backyard. He remembered how generations of his family had raised cattle, and he knew he could do it better with modern techniques and fresh ideas.

Determined to turn tradition into a thriving enterprise, 29-year-old Nawin returned home and invested his savings to start Nawin Krishi Tatha Pashupati Farm. Alongside cattle rearing, he expanded into beekeeping and vegetable farming, proving that agriculture can be both modern and profitable.

Joining the GEEP program gave him new skills and confidence. He learned the importance of timely vaccination and parasite control for his livestock, and how technology could help boost productivity. Now, with plans to grow his business further, Nawin hopes to show others that Nepal’s fields hold boundless promise, and that with knowledge and support, no one in rural areas needs to remain unemployed. He believes awareness is key to awakening more entrepreneurs who can unlock the true potential of Nepal’s agricultural wealth.
