From Education to Entrepreneurship: How a Teacher Built a Buzzing Beekeeping Venture

Krishna Prasad Regmi’s story is one of transformation and perseverance. A 48-year-old from Siranchok Rural Municipality, Ward No. 1, Krishna devoted 19 years to teaching as a temporary primary school teacher in his village. However, after being unable to secure a permanent position, he left the profession in 2076 B.S. and began beekeeping with just 10 hives.

At first, lacking technical knowledge, Krishna faced many challenges. He struggled with feeding and watering his bees properly, causing many to leave the hives or perish. These difficulties made him doubt whether beekeeping could ever be profitable.

His fortunes changed when he attended an 11-day beekeeping training offered by the District Agriculture Office. With new skills and confidence, managing his enterprise became easier. Today, Krishna manages 25 beehives, generating an annual income of up to NPR 400,000. This income supports his sons’ education and meets his family’s daily needs, significantly improving their financial stability.

Krishna has also begun sharing his knowledge with other local entrepreneurs and started selling beehives. Recently, he has ventured into cardamom farming as well.

As his entrepreneurial spirit grew, Krishna learned about the Growth Entrepreneurship and Employment Promotion (GEEP) program run in partnership with the Gandaki Provincial Government, Ministry of Industry and Tourism, Siranchok Rural Municipality, and Daayitwa. He applied and was honored to be selected among the top 40 and then the top 20 entrepreneurs.

Through GEEP, Krishna participated in training on innovation and business planning, boosting his confidence to adopt new practices and manage his business more efficiently. His story reflects how learning and determination can turn challenges into opportunities for growth and success.
