Top Bahadur Chhetri

 Building Local Strength:

Top Bahadur Chhetri, from Jaljala Rural Municipality, spent a decade working in a Gulf country before returning home as he was dissatisfied with his life abroad. After his return, he became an inspiration for the people of Jaljala by establishing the largest buffalo farm in his community.

Buffalo milk is in high demand sold for Rs.100 per litre, and many farmers are now shifting from cows to buffaloes because consumers increasingly prefer buffalo milk. Chhetri recognised the opportunity and the profitable price range, and decided to invest in the sector.Today, his farm houses 16 buffaloes and 3 cows, producing around 160 litres of milk daily. What started as his individual effort has grown into a family-run enterprise, with four family members working alongside him, as well as two additional employees. He initially invested Rs. 2 lakhs to import high-quality buffalo breeds from India and now he makes about 2 lakh monthly income from milk sales.

Entrepreneurs like Chhetri are crucial for the progress of local communities, and Jaljala Rural Municipality is striving to support them despite limited budgets. They have introduced initiatives such as providing water-heating solar panels and cow mats to assist large farms like his, helping sustain and motivate local enterprises.
