Madan Bhusal
Farm to Future: Cultivating Quality, Embracing Growth
Madan Bhusal, originally from Nawalparasi, made an important decision seven years ago to relocate his family to Tilottama Municipality in pursuit of greater opportunities. Rooted in a farming background, Madan envisioned dairy farming as the cornerstone of his family's economic stability and growth.
Upon settling in Tilottama, Madan and his brother Pawan founded Narayani Gai Bikas Farm, initially focusing on dairy production. Recognizing the burgeoning dairy market in Butwal, they strategically expanded their operations.
Starting with a modest number of livestock transplanted from Nawalparasi, their farm now boasts 16 buffaloes and 45 cows. This expansion has enabled them to achieve an impressive daily milk production of 350 liters, alongside the production of paneer, yogurt, and other dairy products.
Their journey wasn't without hurdles. Initially, the absence of a milk cooling system led to significant milk wastage. However, their determination and commitment to quality propelled them forward. Today, Narayani Gai Bikas Farm stands out for its uncompromising stance on product integrity—it refrains from adulterating its milk and prioritizes maintaining the highest quality standards.
Madan’s entrepreneurial spirit has not only transformed his family's fortunes but has also positively impacted the community. The farm employs several residents, directly providing livelihoods to 14–15 individuals who contribute to various aspects of farm operations, from cattle care to product distribution and customer service. This employment has not only enriched the lives of these individuals but has also contributed to the local economy.
Madan's astute business acumen and participation in the Daayitwa Rural Enterprise Acceleration Program have been pivotal in his success. The program equipped him with essential business management skills and provided a platform to expand his network within and beyond his community. These connections have facilitated the farm’s growth and resilience in the face of challenges such as labor shortages due to youth migration abroad.
Narayani Gai Bikas Farm has become a beacon of economic stability and sustainability in Tilottama Municipality. The farm generates a monthly income of approximately Rs. 150,000-200,000, which is reinvested back into the business for expansion and improvement. This financial stability not only supports Madan’s vision for growth but also fosters a culture of entrepreneurship and self-reliance within the community.
Looking ahead, Madan and Pawan aspire to further scale their production and distribution capabilities, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and reach new markets. Their long-term vision includes creating more employment opportunities and promoting sustainable farming practices in the region. They aim to inspire other local farmers to embrace entrepreneurship and contribute to the socio-economic development of Nepal.
Madan Bhusal’s entrepreneurial journey from Nawalparasi to Tilottama epitomizes resilience, innovation, and community impact. Through Narayani Gai Bikas Farm, he has not only secured a prosperous livelihood for his family but has also catalyzed economic growth and social empowerment in his community. His dedication to quality, sustainability, and community welfare sets a commendable example for aspiring entrepreneurs across Nepal, demonstrating the transformative power of local enterprises in fostering inclusive development.
