Rippling Dreams: Abhay's Aquatic Oasis Uplifts Village Tides
Raised in rural Terai, Abhay's childhood was marked by idyllic days of fishing and swimming in local ponds, far from the conventional path to becoming a doctor that his father envisioned. After completing high school in Kathmandu, he pursued hotel management in India, driven by a passion to bring economic opportunities back to his village in Rupandehi. Despite initial financial anxieties, Abhay returned home with a bold vision—to establish a resort that not only promoted local tourism but also created employment opportunities for his community.
In 2018, Abhay realized his vision with the founding of "A-Cube Aquatic Resort." Initially focused on boating activities, the resort soon expanded to include innovative features such as floating rooms and a uniquely designed restaurant. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Abhay's resilience and strategic management allowed him to double his initial investment from NPR 1.5 crore to NPR 3 crore. The resort currently employs 14–15 workers, providing valuable jobs in his village.
Looking ahead, Abhay plans to empower local women by involving them in housekeeping, citrus fruit farming, and pickle making at the resort. He aims to leverage local resources and minimal technology to ensure sustainability and economic empowerment. His ambitious long-term vision includes transforming the resort into a business learning center for local business schools and expanding into lemon farming.
Abhay is passionate about preserving traditional Tharu culture and cuisine. His plans include establishing a "Tharu Museum" to promote cultural heritage and learning, utilizing local resources and labor. He attributes much of his success to the Daayitwa Rural Enterprise Acceleration Program, which provided him with invaluable exposure, networking opportunities, and a robust learning platform. Today, he advocates strongly for a green economy and climate conservation, integrating indigenous knowledge to sustainably develop his business and preserve local traditions.
Abhay's journey from rural Terai to entrepreneurial success is a testament to his vision, determination, and commitment to community development. Through A-Cube Aquatic Resort, he not only boosts local tourism and employment but also pioneers sustainable practices and cultural preservation. His story inspires others to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams while making a positive impact on their communities and the environment.
